ChowNow Uber Illustrations

ChowNow partnered with Uber to offer restaurant partners a delivery option in ChowNow’s Flex Delivery program. For Uber integration, I created illustrations for three states of order tracking: preparing orders, canceling orders, and order delivered.

Challenge

When partnering with Uber for delivery integrations, I was tasked with creating fun illustrations for order statuses, incorporating ChowNow's brand without using the logo, and featuring "Powered by Uber."

Drawing inspiration from ChowNow’s 2017-2020 aesthetic and Calvin Sprague’s illustrative style, I combined bold lines, shapes, and our color palette to create a Chinese takeout theme —highlighting underrepresented cuisines in delivery apps. For the "Order Delivered" illustration, I added a subtle homage with a sticker featuring ChowNow's slogan, "Order Better."

The biggest challenge was the "Order Cancelled" illustration. After exploring ideas, I landed on fortune cookies but adjusted the colors to grey tones with a red canceled icon to signal an issue, per CMO feedback.

The takeaway: The final designs were well-received, and I learned the importance of simplifying illustrations for usability, especially in dark mode or quick-view scenarios. Some details were pared down to ensure clarity and readability.
