ChowNow REFRESH
During the pandemic, the demand for digital ordering, delivery, and curbside pickup skyrocketed as diners and restaurants adapted to a new reality. While competitors flooded the market with similar solutions, ChowNow stood apart by offering something truly sustainable: a long-term, restaurant-first approach with low subscription fees that protected local businesses’ bottom lines. As ChowNow continued to champion independent restaurants, it became clear—it was time for a Refresh.
MY ROLE
During the Design Sprint, I took on the challenge of revamping key touchpoints—recreating email modules, newsletter templates, and internal assets like business cards and email signatures—all within the sprint’s fast-paced timeline. My focus was on ensuring every design aligned seamlessly with the new rebrand guidelines while making sure templates were intuitive and effective.
Beyond static design, I saw an opportunity to push the Refresh even further. I dove into After Effects, learning the foundations of motion design, and applied this new skillset to bring ChowNow’s refreshed identity to life across social media and email. It was a chance to not just maintain consistency but to elevate how the brand moves and engages with its audience.
Challenge
We teamed up with the renowned agency Gretel to craft a bold new visual identity for ChowNow—one that truly reflects our mission and the restaurants we champion. As the creative team, we explored the heart of the brand, defining a look and feel that was authentic, unpretentious, and rooted in the spirit of independent eateries.
We drew inspiration from the everyday charm of dive bars and neighborhood spots—think well-worn receipts, nostalgic stickers, and the kind of effortless character that makes these places feel like home. Gretel then took this foundation and brought it to life, creating a visual system and inspiration (see above) that’s as genuine as the restaurants we support.
